With the elections looming in May 2019, there may be residents/parish councillors who are thinking of becoming a District or Parish Councillor; with this in mind, Breckland Council are holding a Prospective Councillor event on Tuesday, 12 February 2019 from 6.00pm at the Breckland Council Conference Suite in Dereham (light refreshments will be available from 5.30pm).
Further details of ‘How to become a Councillor’ will be available soon on the Breckland website: www.breckland.gov.uk and a programme of what to expect at the prospective Cllr event will follow in due course.

MORE VOLUNTEERS NEEDED IN MUNDFORD TO LISTEN TO CHILDREN READ IN PRIMARY SCHOOLS
Can you spare an hour or two a week to listen to children read in a primary school? The reading charity Schoolreaders is looking for volunteers to carry out this important role.
Reading time for many children at home and at school is often insufficient and one in four children are now leaving primary school unable to read to the required standard. This can have a lifelong consequence. No qualifications are necessary, just a good command of spoken and written English.
Schoolreaders is flexible and matches your availability to the closest local school needing this help. Our volunteers find the scheme incredibly rewarding, knowing that a few hours helping a child learn to read each week can have such a great impact on their life chances.

As you are aware, the Better Broadband for Norfolk (BBfN) Project is facilitating the provision of Superfast Broadband in areas of Norfolk where installation is not commercially viable.
A new communications cabinet (reference BBfN Mundford 5) is to be installed in the grass verge, on A134 Cranwich Road near the junction with Impson Way, Mundford (1m right of the post with ‘Home Watch’ sign, and 2.3m back from the kerb edge) to serve residents & businesses in the immediate surrounding area. No date for installation is currently available, however the BBfN Programme is due to complete by the end of March 2020.
People can check to see which BT structure their property is served from and available speeds using the BT Wholesale Line Checker.

Once a fibre solution is available an “VDSL” option will be shown. Prior to implementation copper based broadband speeds are shown as “ADSL”.
Suffolk Highways have given us advance notice of road closures, as follows.
I am writing to inform you of upcoming essential bridge maintenance works proposed to take place at Wilton Bridge on Station Road (B1112), Lakenheath which may have an effect on the surrounding parishes.
The construction programme is due to take no more than 15 weeks beginning Wednesday 2nd January 2019 for 12 weeks until Monday 22nd April 2019. The carriageway will be restricted to one lane via the use of a barrier system for 150 meters either side of the bridge and also there will be a temporary speed reduction from NSL/60mph down to 30mph for 200 meters either side of the bridge.
There will be a programme of road closures during some weekends at the start and end of the project, these will be required to setup the site compound and install the traffic management systems and likewise at the end to dismantle.
The programme of road closure we propose is as follows. Please do note that not all of the proposed road closures will be required, however, we require to have them reserved and road space clear as this is a high risk project which does not allow for a delay of any kind. Please also find attached the proposed diversion route which will affect your parish jurisdictions during the any road closures.

As of today, 2nd November 2018, the new post box located on the corner of West Hall Road by the Bowls Club and Pig Stye Lane, is open for letters to be posted.

At the Parish Meeting on the 4th October the Council appointed Samantha King from the village as our new Parish Clerk and Responsible Financial Officer.
We welcome Samantha to the Council and look forward to working with her in the future.
Samantha will start her new position on the 1st November 2018.
