2018 Open Gardens Report

What a lovely day we had for our Open Gardens Event on 11th August!  The weather was gorgeous, ideal for a lovely stroll around the village to visit the gardens and stalls. We had a large number of people visit the gardens and participate in the games, competitions etc. Quite a few children entered the Spot the Bird Competition, and the winner was Fred Casson – well done Fred!  Enjoy your birdwatching kit and the family day out to the Suffolk Owl Sanctuary at Stonham Barns in Suffolk.   Alice Hames won the Duck Game – clever girl Alice!  Hope you enjoyed your chocolate cake!  We raised the magnificent sum of £1,440.80 for our two chosen charities – Clic Sargent (who will receive £757.97) and Mind UK( who will receive £682.82) and this money will be forwarded to them shortly. Many thanks to everyone who opened their gardens and to all our families, friends and helpers who made this event a runaway success.  We couldn’t have done it without you!  We would also like to thank  everyone who donated prizes for the competitions and raffle, with special mention to:

Farm Foods, Forestry Commission, Marks & Spencer, Iceland, Mundford Fish Bar, Roys of Wroxham, Sainburys, Village Hair, Suffolk Owl Sanctuary (Stanham Barns), Thursford Collection, The Wellington (Feltwell).

Once again – thank you everybody

STANTA Tour Report 2018

On 8th August 2018, two coaches with 108 residents from Mundford and the surrounding area were treated to a tour of the Stanford Training Area (STANTA). This was a rare opportunity to see the area that was evacuated in 1942 to be dedicated to military exercises. It includes replicas of North European and Afghan villages which are used to prepare personnel for deployment to those and similar destinations.

Funds were raised from ticket sales and voluntary donations. Having deducted the cost of the coaches, £374 has been donated to Stanta Central Bank which will be shared between the following charities: the Army Benevolent Fund, Help for Heroes, the Soldiers, Sailors and Air Force Association and the Battle Area Churches Restoration Fund.

Thanks to Pauline Angus, Parish Clerk for organising the tour.

We meet approximately every 6 – 8 weeks so if you have an hour or so to spare and would like to join our team please contact the Parish Clerk.

Burglary

Please be vigilant as unfortunately it has been reported that there has been a burglary in Mundford in Malsters Close, the residents lost some garden furniture.

A small white van was seen in the area on that day and the driver was in his late 50’s.
